The clients approached Kirill with a request to redecorate several rooms of the house, while preserving the original layout. A complete makeover was needed for a 40-foot-long room with 12 windows, which originally was an indoor swimming pool. Kirill transformed the space into a grand living room that houses the guilded treasures of a collector and serves as a perfect backdrop for entertaining clients’ guests and large family gatherings.

Three sitting areas in this living room serve as a perfect place for client’s large family gatherings. The client’s collection of antique Chinese porcelain figures artfully arranged on the walls was the inspiration for the room’s playful color scheme.

Istomin wanted the mantel to look unique and less formal: he suggested using yellow marble and antiqued mirror panels around it.

The tied-up high curtains serve as decorative ‘columns’ and establish architectural symmetry in the room. Blush-hued cotton covers the walls, adding warmth and softness to the large space. 

De Gournay’s hand-painted wall panels set the tone for the decor of this sumptuous dining room. The theme of the Garden of Eden is continued through the collection of porcelain plates on the walls. The design and color of the doors are inspired by traditional French garden trellises. 

he main accent of the room is three pairs of curtains with mirrored pelmets in the shape of crowns, inspired by the interiors of Indian maharajas. Trellis motif is also carried on the edging of the quilted curtains with interwining multicolor satin ribbons.

In the powder room, the blooming garden theme is continued with whimsical garlands of porcelain flowers on the vintage mirror frame, sconces and chandelier. The bamboo lattice pattern on the wallpaper, reminiscent of a Chinoiserie-style garden trellis, is repeated on the vanity base. The curtain pelmet in the shape of Chinese roofs is complemented by brocade curtains with a wide chic plisse edging.

Kirill Istomin: “The decorating concept doesn’t have to follow the principle of starting with the overall scheme and then moving onto the details. For me, a room can begin with an object, a textile or artwork. The floral curtain fabric, reminiscent of Impressionist paintings, became the starting point for the decoration of this charming girls’ bedroom.”
