Modern Loft

This interior is an example of how decoration can unite the tastes and preferences of all its inhabitants in one space. The owners, a married couple, had radically opposite views on design. The wife wanted to use 19th-century Italian chairs made from inlaid wood, while the husband dreamed of a graphic black and white interior. Istomin’s task was to find a decorating solution that would appeal to both spouses.

Roman blinds made of metallic linen became the focal point of the living room. With their abstract appliquéd triptych designed by Istomin, they look like a work of art in their own right and complement the collection of contemporary paintings.

In the dining room, antique chairs blend harmoniously with the artisanal ceramics on the wall by Bruce McLean. 

Antique parquet imported from France became a beautiful backdrop for items of collectible furniture. The handmade wool and silk felt armchair by Ayala Serfaty and polished-wood and gold-leaf Toby Upton side table have been paired with a work by American painter, Paul Jenkins.

In contrast to the living room, the primary bedroom is in soft, sandy, cream tones. Textures also add to its relaxed feel. The wallpaper is made of raffia and the curtains from a bouclé sheer fabric. The cloud-like table lamp is by Ayala Serfaty and the bronze nesting tables next to the armchair by Franck Evennou.

A pair of metal-framed “camp” beds with bright, hand-painted leather pillows was chosen for the sons’ room.
