Winter Garden

Istomin transformed the winter garden of this country house into a second living room, where his clients could retire with a book or gather as a family. A rose-printed linen determined the color palette of the interior, while the wall panels are inspired by the trellis of the Pavillion Frais in the gardens of the Petit Trianon at Versailles. The centerpiece of the room is a romantic 19th-century French four-poster, used as a daybed. 

Who said a bed must always be in a bedroom? Instead we set this beautiful antique bed with a large canopy in the center of the winter garden, where it took the place of a sofa and became the main ‘attraction’ of the entire room

Arched mirror panels in the shape of the French windows add architectural significance to the room. The yellow commode and pair of planters on stands were designed by Istomin.

The clients wanted to keep their “brown” furniture from a previous home. Istomin proposed to give it a second life and used it in the winter garden, repainting the frames in cheerful shades of yellow, cream, green and pearl.
