Rooms in a Townhouse

The clients invited Istomin to update the formal rooms in their townhouse. His task was to transform the interior with antique furniture and a lavish collection of porcelain to endow it with an eclectic touch and comfort more attuned to modern life.

Artworks by Francis Bacon and Donald Baechler lend a fresh twist to the traditional Karelian birch library wall paneling and bookcases.

Istomin painted the ceiling in a contrasting rich wine color to make it appear higher.

The French Empire daybed was given a new lease of life. It was reupholstered in velvet with “watercolor brushstrokes” and adorned with tiger-print and terracotta mohair pillows.

The decor of the breakfast room is inspired by the iconic Flora Danica dinner service, hand-painted with botanical motifs on white porcelain. Based on it, a floral fabric with a white background was selected for the curtains and quilted chair slipcovers. A still life was hung on a mirrored wall, suspended from fabric ribbons with bows.
